Technology, Cycle Touring - Comments Can be Posted

Feel free to post comments on our Blog. Blog writing is new to us and we realize the ability for readers to comment had been turned off. This has now been corrected and turned on.

Electronic technology has completely changed the way cycling tourists can navigate and maintain communication with their families and friends. For this trip we are carrying an I-Pad and I-Phone (this is not an Apple commercial), which together weighs about one kilo and takes the space of a medium size book (and replaces the need to carry a book). With these two tools we can access the Internet, take pictures, utilize a GPS and altimeter along with numerous other Aps that are useful for cycle touring. In most cases we can use free WiFi, which now is mostly everywhere.

With the world now mapped out, these tools replace the need to carry paper maps and a few weeks ago Google announced they have enhanced their maps with an overlay of cycling routes. Last night we used a mapping service to get from the Berlin train station to our hotel, in the dark. While we are still also using traditional maps and guides for this trip, we expect paper versions are going the way of the buggy whip and typewriter.

This technology set also makes it easy to manage this blog and for our family and friends to follow us along. This again is different than the traditional way of showing everyone your holiday pictures after the fact when you return home.

As such please give your comments. What do you like? What do you want to see more of?
